I now watch what I say, because critics enjoy twisting my words – Jonathan

I now watch what I say, because critics enjoy twisting my words – Jonathan

imagePresident Goodluck Jonathan has said he will henceforth watch his utterances because members of the opposition and critics of his administration take delight in quoting him wrongly.
Speaking yesterday at the Last Sunday service at the Apostolic Faith Church, Jabi, Abuja, he said “I have been forced to watch what I say this time because politicians now take delight in twisting my utterances to suit them.”
Jonathan, who apparently was reacting to the dust generated by his Boko Haram comments on Christmas Day, blamed the current challenges facing the country on selfishness, lack of unity and love among Nigerians as well as championing of ethnicity and religion.
According to him, “Only total commitment to developing the country as well as working collectively to overcome the barriers facing it by Nigerians will guarantee a better future for our children.”
He noted that, Nigeria’s greatness was not in her oil, but in her diversity, human and natural resources, her potentials and the population.
Jonathan assured that its administration will not dwell on its achievement, but continue to work to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.
“We will try our best, but this is not the time to reel out what we are doing or what we are not doing, otherwise, they will think I am here to campaign. But I assure you, this congregation and indeed all Nigerians that by the will of God and your support, I am here today from nowhere,” he said.
“Any child of Nigeria can be where I am. I come from the smallest state in this country, even within the state, one of the smallest communities in Bayelsa. Even within the community, one of the smallest families, but I am here today by the grace of God.
“That is the type of Nigeria we want to create, a Nigeria where you can get what you want if you work hard, it is not because you know somebody who knows somebody that will talk to somebody. A Nigeria that our children, if they work hard, will get whatever they want just like in other free societies like America and so on. We will work with you to help you to get to wherever you want to go.”
Continuing, Jonathan said “I don’t have a formal address. Because for those of us in politics, these days are not the best days to make speeches because any statement we make, people look at how to paint it. The next day when you read the newspapers, you start doubting if that is what you said. So any statement we make is always used against us.”
The President said that he was touched by the preaching of the man of God and the ministration especially that of the children, adding that the Villa Chapel during the Christmas and New Year celebrations is usually closed to allow him worship outside the Villa to interact as well as thank Nigerians who have stood by his administration in prayers.
“But I am quite pleased to be here with you today to worship with you. I love the children and your programme. I love the choir ministration. This is the first time I am worshipping with you since I came to Abuja in 2007. You would have seen me more than 10 times if we don’t have a chapel in the villa where we worship every Sunday.
“But during the Christmas and New Year period, I like to go round and interact with other brethren. The reason is actually to thank all of you for what you have been doing for this country, for your prayers. I always say and I will continue to say it that but for your prayers, probably it would have been worse than this.
On the almagamation of the North and South, Jonathan said “I totally agree with our man of God that it was not by chance, it was ordained by God. If God didn’t will it at that point, the North and South would not have come together. The details of the North and South coming together make Nigeria a very great country. I use to say that Nigeria is great not because of oil. We have countries that produce more oil than Nigeria but nobody talks about them.
“We have countries that have multi-billion dollars in reserve because of their wealth and nobody talks about them but here we are just talking about $40billion. But the biggest to the smallest country talks about Nigeria. Why? Because of the diversity from the North to the South, the human and natural resources, the potentials and the population that we have.
“So, Nigeria is a country that has a special blessing from God. It is left for us to appreciate God and continue to pray for God’s intervention and this country will continue to be great,” he said.
Earlier in the service, the President took the Bible reading, which was taken from the Book of Lamentations, Chapter 3, Verses 22 to 26.
Delivering the sermon titled: “Living worthy of great mercies, great faithfulness of God,” Rev. Bayo Adeniran stated that Nigeria will be very great if the people do good unto others, citing God-like people of Nineveh in the Bible in Jonah 3: 5 to 8.
Advising Nigerians to be wary of false prophets, Adeniran said “If Nigeria believes in God like the people of Nineveh, God will heal Nigeria. The swiftness of God shall visit this country. We are so bothered about external corruption, but there are so much corruption in the heart.
“The nation starts with you, the individual and the family.
Return to God and God will answer your prayers. Nigeria shall not die, Nigeria will live if we return to God.”

I am more appreciated abroad than in Nigeria – Iyanya

I am more appreciated abroad than in Nigeria – Iyanya

Famous Nigeria musician, Iyanya Mbuk, who successfully sealed mouth watering endorsement deals with MTN, Zinox Computers and Solo Phones, has disclosed that Nigerians do not appreciate his person.
Iyanya
The kukere crooner stated this in a  recent interview with the PUNCH newspaper.
Iyanya also cleared the air on the number of endorsement deals that he had secured recently.
He further debunked the ongoing rumour that he acquired two cars on the same day, saying that the source of such story cannot be traced to him.

“I didn’t buy four cars in one day o. I only bought just one which I posted on Instagram. So I don’t know where people got their own story from. We have four cars in my house. I also do not get it when people say we (artistes) show off on social media.
“I mean if God has blessed me, there is no reason to hide that. We are not showing off. After all, everyone knows Iyanya’s story. Whenever I post pictures of my cars or money on Instragram, the public should understand that it is just my own way of saying if God can do it for me, He can for you too.” He said
“I am not half as appreciated in Nigeria as I am overseas. I guess that is the many rewards that ‘Kukere’ has earned me within a short period of time.  The truth is that I came up with Kukere to make money because Nigerians were not listening to RnB. See where it has gotten me today,” he added.

MILE ONE MARKET IN PORT HARCOURT IN FLAMES

The famous Mile One Market in Mile One Diobu Port Harcourt is now in flames following a fire out-break which started in the early hours of today. Some of those wth whom I spoke at the scene said the fire may have started around 1 a.m. or 2 a.m. While a host of others denied having any knowledge about when it started.
However, when I arrived at scene of the incident by 3:40 a.m., the rampaging fire had mercilessly gutted a large portion of the market. Though some fire fighters from the Rivers State Fire Service whose office is situated still at Mile One under the flyover were present as at press time. The fire seem to have surpassed their skill and equipment as the fire (with multiple explosions ) gradually and steadily kept moving to other parts of the market and buildings along the Ikwerre rd. With thousands of traders, sympathizers and onlookers flooded everywhere, loud outbursts of cry are heard here and there. Some traders were rushed to the hospital for medical attention upon arrivng just to discover that their shops and goods have have been razed down... To worsen the situation, a driver who stole someone's car loaded with goods while trying to escape from the police patrol van ran over a boy whose chances of survival is very slim. Its indeed a sad day!

Senator Yerima divorces 17year old Egyptian wife, marries another 15yr old

Senator Yerima divorces 17year old Egyptian wife, marries another 15yr old
Three years after marrying a 14 year old Egyptian girl named Marian, which was widely protested in Nigeria, former Zamfara state governor and serving senator of the federal republic of Nigeria, Sen. Ahmed Yerima, has reportedly divorced her to marry a new wife, City People reports. According to the magazine, Yerima and four men, said to be members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly were in Egypt a few weeks ago for the wedding fathia of a new bride said to be 15 years old.

Marian who is now 17 and a mother of one, is believed to be the daughter of the former governor's driver whenever he visits Egypt. The reason he divorced her is to enable him take a new wife as he's not allowed more than four wives.

The Senator is alleged to have married and divorced a few women in the last few years but has never changed his first three wives, only the fourth ones.

Sen. Ahmed Yerima this year was strongly against the deletion of the section of the 1999 constitution which pegged the official marriage age in Nigeria as 18 years, saying it was anti-Islam.
